Holiday itinerary
Day 1 UK to Antwerp - Dover, Calais, then a drive into Belgium to Antwerp, the world capital of diamonds, to our overnight hotel.
Day 2 Antwerp to Berlin - We head east and into Germany to the historic capital for three nights at the Holiday Inn City Centre East (4*). Re-united since 1989 with the fall of the Wall, Berlin is a thriving city full of living history, and is a delight to explore.
Day 3 Berlin - A chance to see some of the famous sights in this city that has been restored to its former glory in recent years. The iconic Brandenburg Gate, the infamous Checkpoint Charlie, the Reichstag German parliament building and the upmarket Kurfürstendamm shopping area are just some of the highlights not to be missed. A half-day guided city tour is included to help you become aquainted with the main sights.
Day 4 Berlin - Enjoy a day in Berlin exploring at your own pace, or why not visit Potsdam and the Sansoucci Palace on our optional excursion.
Day 5 Berlin to Stralsund - In the morning, we leave Berlin and journey north. Firstly, we reach the wonderful Mecklenburg lake district, the largest area of lakeland in Europe, and the medieval town of Neubrandenburg where we enjoy time to explore. Continuing northwards, in the afternoon we arrive to the Hanseatic city of Stralsund, for our three night stay at the Hotel Hiddenseer (3*), a listed building on a historic site by the harbour, and enjoying a clear view of Stralsund’s Old Town and the island of Rügen. With its World Heritage Site old town, imposing churches, red brick gothic houses, market square and lovely harbour full of waterside bars and restaurants, it’s easy to see why Stalsund is so popular with tourists from Germany and beyond.
Days 6 Stralsund - A chance to relax and enjoy this beautiful city. There is an optional walking tour of Stralsund available for you to discover more about this imposing Hanseatic town. Or alternatively why not relax in one of the many pavement cafes in the historic heart of the city?
Day 7 Rügen Island - Take advantage of the full day optional excursion to Rügen island, linked by bridge to Stralsund, and definately one of Germany’s hidden gems. The beautiful pier at Sellin is a sight to behold. We also visit the chalk cliffs in the Jasmund National Park, and the delightful resort of Binz, located on one of the island’s most enchanting bays, the Prorer Wiek.
Day 8 Stralsund to Hamburg - We head west to visit the beautiful hanseatic town of Lübeck, then onwards for a night in Germany’s second largest city, Hamburg, at the Ramada Bergedorf Hotel, located just outside the city. With a rich maritime history, stunning architecture, and a lively atmosphere, Hamburg has over 2,000 bridges – more than Venice and Amsterdam combined!
Day 9 Hamburg to Antwerp - We return to Belgium for dinner and our overnight hotel.
Day 10 Antwerp to UK - Heading back into France after breakfast for the Calais to Dover ferry, then home.
