Excursions and visits
Alpbach and Rattenberg (included). Time at leisure in the morning, then an excursion into the beautiful Alpine countryside of the Tyrol. We visit the mountain village of Alpbach, one voted ‘Austria’s most beautiful village’ which creates a picture postcard with geraniums and other flowers adorning the window boxes in summer, so have your camera ready. After Alpbach we visit the smallest town in Austria, Rattenberg, famous for its glass-blowing and quaint souvenir shops.
Krimml Falls andKitzbühel (optional). Where the Krimml River thunders down over 1000 feet in three mighty stages, at the foot of the Gerlos Pass, are the spectacular Krimml Waterfalls, which give views many consider to be unsurpassed throughout Europe. This is the first, exciting stop on today’s optional excursion, before we move along the Salzach Valley and over the Thurn Pass to the internationally renowned resort of the rich and famous, Kitzbühel, where we have some free time to explore this splendid walled town.
Swarovski Crystal World and Innsbruck (optional). Swarovski is considered by many to be the finest lead crystal made today. At the Swarovski Crystal World you can see the exhibition and perhaps treat yourself and buy some gifts. Next, we visit Innsbruck, the ‘Capital of the Tyrol’. Innsbruck came into prominence in the 15th century, when the Emperor Maximilian based his court here. Many fine buildings are a testimony to the city’s regal past, including the famous Golden Roof and the Hofburg Palace, whilst Maria Theresien Strasse is also a must.
Salzburg (included); Salzburg sightseeing tour (optional); Lake Mondsee (optional). The ‘Sound of Music’ city of Salzburg was the home of the Von Trapp family, around whom the film was based, and was also the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Spend free time exlporing independently of join our optional guided sightseeing tour to enjoy the lovely squares, medieval lanes and gothic churches of this beautiful Alpine city and perhaps visit the fascinating museum of Mozart's birthplace, where he lived adn composed much of his early work. Later spend free time in Salzburg of join our optional excursion to Lake Mondsee, in the Salzkammergut. Mondsee itself is a delightful resort on the banks of the lake and is home to the church featured in the "Sound of Music".
Your hotel
You’ll stay for five nights at a 3-star standard hotel or gasthof in the Austrian Tyrol. The hotel will have a restaurant and bar and will be conveniently located for our exciting excursion programme. Hotel details will be advised with your travel documents.
